Some days when you are trying something new, you have a mixture of excitement and nervousness. Niamh likes to call it "nervecited". This is expected with any new task or challenge. This group proved that everyone should try new things and no matter what, our friends will support us.
A few weeks with this group in the ETB Latch On services, who are all adult students with Down Syndrome - proved many times, how much our friends can make our challenges seem all the easier.

Learning to cycle with Down syndrome can present unique challenges, but it's a rewarding journey that fosters independence and physical confidence. While initially daunting, with patience, support, and adapted teaching methods, individuals with Down syndrome can conquer this milestone just like anyone else. It may be scary due to the fear of falling or the uncertainty of mastering a new skill, but it shouldn't be. Encouraging a positive and supportive environment, focusing on gradual progress rather than perfection, and celebrating every achievement along the way can make learning to cycle an empowering experience. With determination and perseverance, individuals with Down syndrome can embrace the joys of cycling, gaining not only a newfound sense of freedom but also enhancing their physical coordination and self-esteem.
Luckily, for these students, they had unsurpassed support from their teachers Áine (Up the Kingdom!!!) , Lorraine, Anne Marie and Mary Jo.
We were also blessed to be able to use the Down Syndrome Tipperary facility in Thurles to hold the classes, and that's a huge credit to Meitheal 21 team we met week in, week out, Derbhla, Linda, Angela, Cora, Paul. You were always on hand to offer support in any way possible, and endless cups of tea. We are so indebted to you for enhancing our lives.

Thank you also to Cycling Ireland for empowering us to complete these courses.
Margo and Barbara are like our little guardian angels on our shoulders, offering help and support continually.
We're so proud to represent the association.
